The 2025 season of the Moto3 World Championship will shortly commence with the pre-season tests in Portimao and Jerez, and the first race of the season in March.

The 2024 season was dominated by none other than David Alonso, who won the world championship in a way we’ve never witnessed before - knocking Valentino Rossi off one of his records. Alonso was able to achieve a remarkable 14 wins in one season, taking the record of 9 wins in one Moto3 season away from Joan Mir and the record of 11 wins in one season of the lightweight category away from Valentino Rossi which has stood since 1997.

After a triumphant season in 2024, it’s time to turn our attention to this year’s grid, complete with a staggering 8 new rookies.

As David Alonso has now graduated to Moto2, as well as frontrunners Ivan Ortola, Collin Veijer, and Dani Holgado, this leaves an opportunity for the underdogs to take to the fore in 2025. Some of the championship contenders for 2025 include Angel Piqueras who took home the Rookie of the Year title in 2024, Taiyo Furusato the next prodigy from Asia, Adrian Fernandez who has solidified his return to the class after a year out, and Jose Antonio Rueda who is consistently challenging at the front.

Other notable riders who need a solid 2025 include David Munoz who finished 5th in the overall standings in 2024, but his inconsistencies prevail. Returning to the Moto3 class is Dennis Foggia, who joins the Aspar Team after a couple of seasons in Moto2; 2025 will be an important season for him as it is rare to see a rider make the step back to Moto3 - and actually succeed. It will also be worth keeping an eye on Luca Lunetta who achieved a few rookie podiums in 2024, and David Almansa who has boundless potential as he makes the switch to Leopard Racing for 2025.

With a remarkable 8 new additions to the grid in 2025, we’ll do a quick overview of our rookies and who to look out for this season. Starting with the current Moto3 Junior World Champion and Red Bull Rookies Cup Champion Alvaro Carpe, as he steps up to Moto3 with the Red Bull KTM Ajo Team - Carpe will very much be one for all of us to keep an eye on this season. We also have rookie teammates Ruche Moodley and Cormac Buchanan joining the class, who fill the BOE Motorsports team this year, it will be an interesting dynamic on and off track to see how they guide yet battle each other as newcomers to the championship.

We have Eddie O’Shea heading up MLav Racing after joining the team mid-season in 2024, with the rookie Marcos Uriate now joining the grid alongside him for 2025. We have the very talented Maximo Quiles joining the Aspar Team, as well as Guido Pini, joining the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP Team after the pair battled against each other for the European Talent Cup title in 2022 and 2023. Emerging superstar Valentin Perrone who has quickly risen through the ranks, will be making the jump straight from the European Talent Cup, to the Moto3 World Championship in 2025 - it will be important for us all to keep a watch on the young Argentine.

As we approach a new season, it’s time to say goodbye to the riders who will not be returning to the Moto3 grid including veteran Tatsuki Suzuki, 2024 rookies: Xabi Zurutuza and Joel Esteban who were only given one year to get to grips with the category, Josh Whatley who left the MLav mid-season last year, and Fillipo Farioli who moves to World Supersport.

As we face 22 rounds, including a new circuit in Hungary, the riders will prepare to face new challenges, opponents, and limits.
