A summer summary of Moto3

It's all about awesome Alonso in Moto3 this year. The 18-year-old Colombian seems unstoppable with 6 wins out of 9 races. He comes into the summer break as the clear favorite to win the lightweight class world championship in 2024. The CFMoto Aspar team will undoubtedly be looking at moving him into the Moto2 class in 2025.

While David Alonso's dominant form has him leading the championship by 58 points, three other riders have collected a win so far this season. Iván Ortolá is the most recent recipient of a win after a last-lap scrap with home hero Collin Veijer saw him stand on the top step of the podium at the Cathedral of Speed. This win, plus his strong performance throughout the season, has him sitting in second in the world championship. Like Alonso, we can expect Ortolá to be making the jump up to the intermediate class in 2025.

One of the preseason favorites, Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rider Dani Holgado, has struggled in recent races after a strong start to the season. Currently sitting in third in the world championship, Holgado has got to overcome his current slump if he wants to claw back points and stay in this championship fight. Even with his current form being below his usual standard of fighting at the front, I'd also expect him to move to Moto2 next year.

The final rider who has picked up a win so far this season is Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact rider Colin Veijer. While his Dutch Grand Prix ended with him stepping on the second step of the podium, it was Jerez where he took the top step. This, combined with some strong results, has him in fourth place in the championship fight. His crash in the German GP will have hurt his confidence, but he can be comfortable knowing his points haul is in the triple digits.

Rounding out the top five is David Muñoz. The Boé Motorsports rider has collected a couple of podiums so far this season. His consistency in finishing high up on the grid has helped him stay towards the pointy end of the championship. He is currently sitting 95 points away from championship leader David Alonso, and his championship chances are surely fading.
