Exciting competition in a boring race

By: Farah Saleh

Hey besties, how are you? Long time no see. I know, you have missed me again. Well, you have work to blame because it has been taking me a lot lately. Anyway, I’m back, for now, so let’s talk about racing.

Finally, back to Imola after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was cancelled last year due to heavy floods. The race started with Max Verstappen leading from pole and finished with him winning. However, that doesn’t stop us from talking about two things, the battle between Verstappen and Norris and the battle between Sainz and Piastri.

Let’s start with last year’s championship winner aka Max Verstappen and last race’s winner aka Lando Norris.

It seems that the win has boosted Norris’ confidence more that he was able to challenge Verstappen, giving him a hard time throughout the race.

It all started with Max widening the gap between him and Lando to reach about +2.670 sec by lap 10. 3 laps later, it reached +3.304 sec. But, Lando’s speed started to increase significantly. I have to admit. I really thought Lando would win specially towards the end when Max announced that there was a battery problem. And I do believe that if he had extra two laps, he would have won.

It would have been crazy if he got back-to-back wins specially that Miami was his first win in his Formula 1 career since he joined in 2019.

However, not everything you wish for comes true. Because at the end, Verstappen was able to win but with less than one second gap between the two of them. I have a strong feeling that Max might have been panicking a little bit from the inside. Just a little.

Now with the two men who have been beefing together for a while now. It just happens a lot lately. They keep fighting on the track and complain on the radio like a married couple.

I think we all saw and heard what happened in Miami when the two of them kept overtaking each other and eventually Carlos Sainz was hit with a penalty because he was a bit aggressive.

Now on the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, it wasn’t as aggressive. But still as much fun. At the beginning, Oscar Piastri was supposed to start from P2. But he received a three-place grid penalty that dropped him to P5 for impeding Kevin Magnussen during qualifying.

So, the race started with Piastri chasing Sainz to get P4 from him. And that chase kept going for a while with Sainz defending like a lion. But eventually he had to pit which made him come out in P6. He managed to pass Perez winning P5 from him but he wasn’t able to pass Piastri causing him to finish in P5. Not the best race for the Spaniard, however, he did his best.

Next race will be in Monaco, the home race for our boy Charles Leclerc. The circuit length is 3.337km with a race distance of 260.286 KM and it will last for 78 laps. The circuit has 19 turns and 1 DRS zone. Max Verstappen won the latest Monaco GP with Fernando Alonso in P2 and Esteban Ocon in P3.

Now tell me, who do you think will have the pole position next Saturday and who will have the win on Sunday. We shall find out soon enough.
