San Marino Review

@MotoGP

Jorge Martin absolutely amazed with his record breaking lap around Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Pramac Ducati will be very happy as that was only the start of a sensational weekend for the Spaniard, he Sprinted to victory on Saturday and also took the top spot on Sunday. The other side of the Pramac garage wasn't so rosy this weekend. Johan Zarco had a weekend he would rather forget, he qualified in P16 and struggled all through the weekend. P14 in the sprint and p10 in the race.

Factory Ducati shone brightly in a special yellow livery. World champion Pecco Bagnaia overcame injury after the incident last week that saw him run over by fellow rider Brad Binder to perform strongly and limit the damage to his world championship fight. With a Podium on Saturday and a p3 on Sunday, you have to admire the determination of each MotoGP pilot. Unfortunately the mixed fortunes continued in this garage, Enea Bastinini was forced to sit out due to multiple fractures, in true Italian spirit he still donned the yellow gear and made sure to greet the crowd.

VR46 was also sporting an injured rider, Marco Bezzechi was caught up in the incident with Enea Bastinini last weekend at the Catalan GP, but like his VR46 Acadamy companion, he didn't let it slow him down with Bezzechi taking the podium on both days. His teammate Luca Marini secured his position for 2024 prior to the weekend.

Gresini Ducati was discussed at length with rumors persisting of Marc Marquez making the move over next year, nothing was decided this weekend and I think we will be waiting until at least Japan to hear any more news on this rumour. Fabio Di Giannantonio seems to be solidifying his fate to vacate that seat for 2024 with another pointless weekend. His teammate Alex Marquez continues his strong performance on the Ducati with a P9 in the Saturday Sprint and a P11 on the Sunday.

Dani Pedrosa was back on track for Factory KTM, showing that the Samurai is still sensational. He was the highest scoring KTM with a solid P4 on both days. Brad Binder put in a solid Saturday performance, scoring a P5 behind Pedrosa, his Sunday was a lot more spicy with Binder following the leading group before crashing out. It should be noted that the South African remounted and still managed to score the points, finishing P14, ahead of 5 other riders. To crash out and still score points? That is some serious skill.

Teammate Jack Miller had a horrific weekend, he certainly will be starting to sweat with the looming threat of Pedro Acosta causing KTM to need to find a space in it's 4 bikes to make room for the up coming talent.

GasGas KTM also had a weekend to forget with Pol Espargaro crashing multiple times throughout the weekend. Teammate Augusto Fernandez also struggled, with a P16 in the main Grand Prix Sunday race and a P19 in the sprint meaning that GasGas were scoreless all weekend.

Lots of eyes were on Aprilias Maverick Vinales coming into this weekend, after a strong performance at the Catalan GP it was expected that they could have another wonderful weekend. Unfortunately it wasn't as sensational however Vinales did score solid points with a P5 on Sunday and a P6 on the Saturday. Teammate Aleix Espargaro was more unfortunate with a P8 in the sprint and a P12 in the main race.

RNF had a sad Saturday with both pilots finishing out of the points, that was all forgotten on Sunday however with both Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez finishing in the top 10, Oliveria finished in P6 and Fernandez in P8, this is the strongest performance for the team as a whole and I imagine the celebrations were sensational.

Marc Marquez showed that he still has skill by finishing P7 in the race and P10 in the sprint, while normally these results would not be anything to write about the fact is that he finished 13 seconds behind the leader but an incredible 20 seconds ahead of the next best Honda. Truly incredible scenes from the Spaniard.

Yamahas highest rider was Fabio Quatararo, who finished P13 both days, with these sub par results from the Japanese manufacturers. All eyes eagerly await what will hopefully be a large step forward on Monday at testing.
