Technical Talk

This year the 2027 regulations are set to be announced, while all decisions will be made behind closed doors with the only attendees being manufacturers, FIM and people who will hopefully find an agreement on engine size (with 850cc seeming to be the favorite to replace the current 1000cc), the restriction of winglets and aerodynamics along with banning items such as ride height devices.

The recent pre season MotoGP testing at Sepang and Qatar saw manufacturers use every inch of the rules to create different variations dinosaur wings on the rear,

Honda's double-stacked rear wing made a reappearance at the rear. While it was spotted during the Sepang Shakedown, its presence during the actual Sepang Test was less prominent. Reflecting on the Valencia Test, Honda did showcase a double-stacked rear wing; however, this new iteration combines elements from both the Valencia design and the more recent lower-profile variant.

Overall, it represents a more comprehensive implementation of the double-stacked rear wing compared to its initial appearance in Valencia. Taka Nakagami praised the wing, noting its positive impact on enhancing bike stability during braking. He highlighted that it ensures a greater load on the rear tire, which is crucial for maximizing braking performance, especially with Michelin's high-traction rear slick, a significant factor in MotoGP.

Moving on to Yamaha

Yamaha revealed their new "dino wings". While we have seen Yamaha experimenting with a square rear wing this year, they've now unveiled a fresh configuration featuring three individual wings on each side, resembling a dinosaur's spine. In the previous season, they utilized a similar "dino wing" concept, albeit with only two wings on each side.

Yamaha has also introduced another minor addition: a small exhaust vent designed to release the engine's trapped hot air located behind the radiator. Positioned just behind the downwash ducts, this vent addresses a potential overheating concern. Its absence during the Sepang session suggests Yamaha recognized the need for better heat management in this region, possibly based on their data analysis. Given Sepang's notorious heat challenges, it's an opportune venue to identify and address such issues.
