The Beast is Back

Sunshine shone on Silverstone as we had a flashback to the past with all of the MotoGP teams celebrating 75 years for Grand Prix racing with special liveries. (keep an eye out for a Livery rating blog coming up!)

@Michelin

Silverstone success came the way of Enea Bastinini who did the double at the BritishGP. The factory Ducati rider was strong all weekend long after he finally fixed his qualifying form settling himself in third on the front row. His teammate reigning world champion Pecco Bagnaia was alongside the beast in second place but couldn't translate this into his usual strong weekend. A crash in the Sprint and third in the Grand Prix saw the championship lead slip out of his grasp.

That championship lead fell back into the hands of Prima Pramac Ducati rider Jorge Martin who collected a pair of second places in Silverstone. A much calmer ride and the title fight remains close with just 3 points separating the two riders. A bad weekend befell Martins garage partner Franco Morbidelli. The Italian was involved in some friendly fire on Saturday with fellow VR46 academy rider Marco Bezzecchi which saw them both taken out of the race. Morbidelli also collected a double long lap for the Sunday race which saw him finish down in 10th place.

With Marco Bezzecchi being taken out in the Sprint the only points he collected were on Sunday with a P8. Fabio Di Giannantonio continued his fine form by collecting points in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix. A P9 in the Sprint was followed by a stronger Sunday with a P5.

Gresini Ducati saw some drama with 8- time world champion Marc Marquez looking for a tow during qualifying, something that was frowned upon by the other Ducati riders. His results were a mixed bag, crashing out of the Sprint and picking up a fourth place in the Grand Prix saw him slip down to fourth in the world championship standings. Brother and teammate Alex Marquez picked up a sixth in the Sprint and seventh in the Grand Prix continuing his consistent form.

Brand Binder qualified well being the only rider in the top 7 on a non Ducati. The Factory KTM rider suffered a mechanical issue on the opening lap of the Grand Prix and retired, no doubt disappointing the rider who is usually stronger on a Sunday. His fourth place finish in the Sprint would have had him hoping for a podium. Teammate Jack Miller had a strong Saturday with a P7, Sunday saw the Australian struggle with late race pace and pick up a P12. Concerning for the rider who doesn't have any offers for seats in 2025.

GasGas had rookie Pedro Acosta continuing a strong season with a P5 in the Sprint and a P9 in the race, consistently in the points is something that the team will no doubt be happy with as he continues to adapt to MotoGP. His teammate Augusto Fernandez is in a similar boat to Jack Miller with no offers of a ride next year, unlike Miller he didn't have a point scoring weekend with a P16 in the Grand Prix and a P13 in the race.

Aprilia walked away with an air of disappointment after such a strong showing last year. While the captain Aleix Espargaro did collect a podium in P3 on Saturday he was unable to continue that momentum and finished P6 in the Grand Prix. Meanwhile Maverick Vinales struggled through to a P8 in the Sprint and a P13 in the Grand Prix.

Trackhouse racing had a pointless weekend. Both Miguel Oliviera were outside of the points in the Saturday Sprint with a P10 and P12 respectfully. Sunday was even worse for the American owned team with a double DNF after Raul Fernandez lost the front and collected his team mate on lap one. One more positive note for the team was the debut of a beautiful new blue livery that will be used for the rest of the 2025 season.

Monster Energy Yamaha saw Alex Rins withdraw with pain after his hand and leg injury sustained in Assen. Wildcard Cal Crutchlow was also unable to attend the race due to a hand infection, this saw World Superbike rider Remy Gardner step in for the British rider, he was on different machinery and testing lots during the weekend. He managed to collect a pair of P18s. Fabio Quartararo also collected a pair of places with P11 in both races.

Both Honda teams continue to struggle with only LCR picking up points this weekend with Johann Zarco in P14 and Takaaki Nakagami in P15 after Factory Honda rider Luca Marini was given a tire pressure penalty post race. Fellow Factory Honda rider Joan Mir picked up P16 in the race before crashing in the Grand Prix.
